Hoop it Up!!!!!

Posted Wed Nov 14, 2007 - 07:07 AM

Yes, the draft is complete and we do have the gym this Thursday but No, we will not start the season this week. The schedule remains the same with an open run on 11/15 and season openers on 11/29.
For those that have not gotten shirt sizes and numbers in, please contact your captain or the league email. Also the cost will be $15 with an extra $2 for each size over an XL (ex. XXL $17). The shirts are not optional you must have one to play. In addition there will be a $5 per team charge per game. This will go towards paying our scorekeeper. This does not replace each teams responsibility for keeping the score books, it is strictly for the the scoreboard and clock.
One last thing..... the website is only as entertaining as you all make it. In order to blog you must confirm your email address. Your password and login where sent out when you where registered. Keep it clean and lets have some fun this year.

Everyone should have been sent an email confirmation and password for the new site. In order to use the Blog page you need to respond to the email sent to you from redzoneleagues. If you did not receive an email contact your team captain or the league with updated address information.
We also need to know what size shirt and your first and second choice of a single digit number for the back. Again this should be communicated through your team captain. Shirt info is needed ASAP so they can be ordered in time for opening night on the 29th.

A press conference will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 pm to officially announce Pat Blest’s retirement. This decision came as no surprise to our organization. Pat Blest met with me earlier this week behind closed doors to discuss his future plans. We wish the best for him, and his family.

2007/2008 Season - Press Release

Posted Thu Nov 01, 2007 - 07:17 AM

Buffalo, N.Y. - Patrick Blest has officially announced his retirement from the Buffalo Grinders Basketball Association effective immediately. Blest had his season cut short last year after sustaining a very serious right ankle injury in his debut game. He had missed the first three weeks of the 07-08 season after suffering an offseason left ankle injury in an unspecified “climbing incident” in Rosemont, Il. Blest says that the effects of the ankle injuries have lingered for some time now. “My ankles have never really felt the same after those injuries,” Blest said. “And let’s face it, I’m not a kid anymore, and HGH or steroids are out of the question with all the publicity they have gotten recently.” The multi-sport athlete has also pointed out that basketball was probably not his game. “I can’t dribble, I can’t shoot, and I can’t jump. This is probably for the best.” The retirement announcement brings to a close a less than stellar career. Blest averaged 0.8 points per game, 1 rebound per game, and 0.5 assists per game over his 2 year BGBA career. He said he looked forward to pursuing other athletic endeavors. “I will participate in the D & A Turkey Bowl in November. I want to get back to playing darts at least once a week. And softball season is only 159 days away.”
