Well folks Grinders is back!!! Every match up in week 1 was entertaining. To open the 2008/2009 Season The Academy took on The Head of Steam. This game was very close early on, with The Head of Steam leading by two early on in the second half. However, once they took that lead, Head of Steam seemed to fade. The Academy won the game 20-15 and got a stellar performance on both ends of the floor by Todd (7 pts, 9 rebs, 3 blks). Zach also pitched in with 5 pts to help seal the win for The Academy. Head of Steam was led by there captain Sampson who had one of the best overall games of his Grinders career (5pts, 6ast, 7rbs, 1to). No, that is not a type-o, Sampson really did only have one turnover. Now that is impressive. The middle game fitted the Bricklayers 2.0 against the After School Specials pt. II. The Specials needed to use an emergency player Pete Witt in order to field a full squad due to an error that was listed on the site. Their #1 pick Justin was not listed on their team, so he thought he was not drafted at all...OOPS Pete played very well and helped the Specials secure a 28-27 victory in a very tough battle. Pete ended the game with a solid line of 6pts, 3asts, 10rebs, 1blk, 1stl. It is a shame he will not be playing each week. Poke also had a hand in the victory with 8pts, 5asts, 17rebs. Coxford came out on fire for the Bricklayers, as he poured in a career high 9pts. Perreault kept the Bricklayers in the game until the end with 6pts, 7ast, 18rbs, 2blks, 4stls. The night cap was arguably the best game of the night as The Revolution and 38 1/2 Minutes of Hell squared off. The lead switched hands multiple times in this games, but the Revolution got the victory 25-23 in the end. Simon had a big second half, scoring 9 of his 14 points in the second half. He added 10rbs to go with his 14pts. Jeff (7pts, 3ast, 12rbs, 4stls), Eric (7pts, 4ast, 9rbs) each had good games for 38 1/2 Minutes and Soluri chipped in with a solid 5/10 shooting. Overall, it was a great opening night for Grinders Basketball. Just remember to pay your score keeper and to have fun on the court. Yes we all want to win, but in the end, we are all there just to have fun and play some basketball.

Week #1 MVP - Simon 14pts, 3at, 10rbs, 2blks, 4stls

Stat Stuffer of the Week - Perreault 6pts, 7asts, 18rbs, 2blks, 4stls

5th Man of the Week - Zach 5pts, 1ast, 3rbs, 1blk, 2stl

Damn that Pete Witt- he played well to beat our team and took the "Oldest Player in the League" title from me - all in one night.

Losing when you are an old player is one thing....losing to an even older player is worse. Although with Paul, myself and "Old Man Marino" our age showed badly. It's like having Wakefield, Mussina, and Charlie Hough all on one staff.

Say what you will about Chris "Moltisanti" Marino - he is a crowd pleaser!!!
