Well the 07/08 Grinders season is in the books. Week 15 was a highly competitive week as teams were jocking for playoff positioning. In the early game, the White Shadows played the Chicken Chokers. The Chicken Chokers already had the 4th seed locked up, but with a win, and some help, the White Shadows could climb out of 6th seed. This was a pretty evenly matched game throughout, but the Chokers prevailed in the end 24-21. Vinny led the Chokers offensively with 7pts, while Justin chipped in with 11rbs. With the Shadows in a must win situation, they played their hearts out. Eric had a solid overall game with 7pts, 8rbs, while Scott also played well with 7pts. However in the end, the Chokers were to much for the Shadows to handle. The middle game of the week, had the most playoff implication of them all. With the 2nd seed, and a first round bye on the line, this game was a Grinders Classic. All game, the Head of Steam and After School Specials battle back and forth and the lead exchanged hands multiple times, with the Specials holding on to a 19-18 victory in the end. Specials had balanced scoring with Poke and Nate with 6pts, and Pete had 5pts. Nate also contributed with 17rbs and 5blks (should of been 6blks). Zach (6pts), Perreault (5pts), Lou (18rbs, 5blks), all played well for the Steam. With the Shadows losing in the opener, the nightcap the outcome of the nightcap would play no part in the playoff seeding. The Head of Steam has had a first round bye, and the #1 seed locked up for a few weeks now, and the Bricklayers are entrenched in the 5th seed. The Bricklayers put on a strong showing both offensively and defensively to win the game by a score of 25-21. The Bricklayers got solid play from their entire team. Will pitched in with 4ast, 3rbs, 3stls, and Drago had career high 11rbs. Simon and Sean did their parts for 40minutes..., combining for 18pts, 31rbs, but they did not get much help elsewhere. This week is the opening week of playoffs. The 2-6 match up features the Head of Steam against the White Shadows. The Shadows are going to have their hands full with out their leading scorer Scott who got injured played in another basketball game on Monday. It is still unknown if he violated his contract by playing in the game on Monday. The 4-5 matchup, should be highly contested as the Chicken Chokers take on the Bricklayers. Lastly, at the open run last week, we had a grinder first. Nate Smith became the first player in the history on the Grinders league to dunk. He threw down a monster dunk on a fast break during one of the games. It was a clean and legit dunk, and we all hope he can do it in the playoffs. Good luck to all tonight and I will see you at the gym. Also, check back soon for the regular season MVP, Most Improved, and ROY awards.
